New EU Battery Regulation Drives Demand for High‑Purity Nitrogen in Lithium Battery Production

As of January 2026, the new EU Battery Regulation has entered full enforcement. It requires all battery products entering the EU market to declare their carbon footprint, along with stricter limits on moisture and oxygen levels during production. As a result, high‑purity nitrogen (≥99.999%) has become a standard requirement for lithium battery dry rooms, and on‑site nitrogen generation is gaining traction due to its stable supply and controllable cost.

Industry analysts predict that global purchases of on‑site nitrogen equipment for the battery sector will grow by over 80% in the next three years. While bulk liquid nitrogen offers stable purity, its transportation energy consumption and supply chain distance constraints make it difficult to meet battery manufacturers’ needs for low‑carbon production and continuous supply. PSA nitrogen generators, by contrast, require only compressed air to produce high‑purity nitrogen on site, reducing carbon emissions by more than 60% compared to liquid nitrogen delivery.

Jinbao Machinery’s technical team notes that lithium battery dry rooms are extremely sensitive to nitrogen dew point and oxygen content, typically requiring purity ≥99.999% and a dew point below -76°F. The company’s A‑Series and X‑Series modular nitrogen generators can consistently meet these specifications, and come with built‑in PLC controls that log purity data and runtime – providing reliable documentation for battery manufacturers to pass regulatory audits.

Jinbao has already supplied on‑site nitrogen systems to several battery makers, including Sunwoda and SVOLT, with the longest continuous runtime exceeding 5,000 hours. The company will continue to monitor EU regulatory developments and provide compliance‑ready nitrogen generation solutions for export‑oriented battery customers.
